Madison Campground reservation

I have a reservation at the Madison Campground for late June. My question is: How are the campsites assigned? Do they assign the campsite when I arrive at the Northeast gate, at the Madison campground, or do I pick one when I get there? The reason I ask is we will be staying in Red Lodge the night before and I would like to take my time enjoying the trip down to Madison (but I don%26#39;t want to get the leftovers if I arrive later in the day).

My understanding is that you are assigned a campsite when you check in at the campground. Since checkout is 11:00 am I would think that the later you arrive, the less your chance of getting a ';good'; site. If you%26#39;re not arriving until sometime in the evening my guess would be the only to choose from would be the leftovers. It all depends on how full the campground is.

My feeling after having just camped at Madison is that there are no bad sites. I don%26#39;t know what you are looking for, but every site seemed wooded, mostly level, close to a bathroom, and more private than you would get in a commercial place. I wouldn%26#39;t worry about the ';leftovers';
