Yellowstone Camping

My family and I (hubby and 5 girls-ages 5-15) are planning a trip to Yellowstone and would like to camp. Does anyone have any suggestions for a central location for camping in the park?

Thanks,

Kim

Canyon or bridge bay would be a good central location.

Thanks, I was looking at Canyon already so I think that will be it!

If you have several days in the park, consider moving to Madison for part of your stay as you will be closer to Old Faithful and the geyser basins near it and also close to the Norris Geyser Basin. Canyon would put you in easy driving distance to either the Lamar or Hayden Valleys for the wildlife viewing. If you and your kids like hiking, the view from the top of Mt. Washburn is stunning on a clear day.

Canyon and Madison are both great campgrounds. If you%26#39;re going to be camping more than a few nights, then I also agree that splitting up time between Canyon and Madison or Mammoth would be worthwhile. I%26#39;m sure it wouldn%26#39;t be easy to relocate camping spots for 2 adults and 5 children, but it would save a lot of driving time to see the whole park.

One thing to take into consideration, especially with 5 children, is shower facilities. Madison Campground does not have shower facilities. Canyon does. Some people don%26#39;t mind but for others its a huge factor.

I agree with the showers. If you stay at Mammoth there are showers available 1/4 mile up the road at the Lodge. I believe that there are also showers available 15 miles down the road from Madison, at Old Faithful (but someone else would have to confirm that).
