Insects, weather, etc.

We%26#39;re planning to visit YNP the first week of June and have gathered lots of information from this great forum. The park sounds and looks breathtaking. Of course, we%26#39;re really wondering about the weather at that time and what to pack to be prepared. Will the weather be more moderate by then? Also, will there be mosquitoes, black flies, or any other insects of concern at that time? Do the park hotels have hair dryers in the guest rooms? Thanks for any help.

Insects, weather, etc.

First question - do you have your reservations made? If not, that%26#39;s high priority, so call Xanterra ASAP!!

Weather at that time should be moderating - warmer during the days(60%26#39;s-70%26#39;s), but still cold at night and in the AM%26#39;s. So layering is the name of the game. You%26#39;ll want sweatshirts, fleece, jeans etc., for mornings and evenings - possibly shorts and T-shirts during the day - but don%26#39;t count on it. Weather in this area is pretty unpredictable. It could be sunny and beautiful - or snowing....

Insects won%26#39;t be a problem - it%26#39;s too early in the season. Mosquitoes etc. don%26#39;t really hatch out until July.

The park hotels have very few amenities - no TV%26#39;s, phones, or hair dryers. To balance that, they%26#39;re in one of the most beautiful setting you%26#39;ll ever see!

Enjoy your trip!

heypaula,

Thanks for the information. We%26#39;re happy that we won%26#39;t be fighting mosquitos. We do have reservations, thanks for your concern. The closer the trip gets, the more excited I am.

Glad I could help - and glad that you have your reservations set.

Enjoy your trip!

HeyPaula,

A thanks from me as well. I will also be there in June (3rd week) and I worry about mosquitoes since I am a mosquito magnet. I am still bringing my already-purchased heavy-on-the-DEET bug repellent for use as necessary.

Good plan Claire - by then you could be seeing some of the little ';buggers'; :-)

Hi! Are there many mosquitoes the last two weeks of June?

It depends on the weather. If it%26#39;s warm, they%26#39;ll start coming out by then - but usually they%26#39;re not a real nuisance until July/Aug. Even then it depends on where you are - they%26#39;ll be more concentrated by the Lake and the rivers - especially around dusk.

Heypaula:

Thank you for the info. Here%26#39;s a mosquito-related question regarding a float trip in GTNP the third week in June. Because those pesky little buggers come out more at dusk, do you recommend taking the very early float trip rather than the one at dusk?

I’m sorry Toley1 for hijacking your thread.

I would take a morning float - fewer bugs and nicer weather - assuming you don%26#39;t go out too early!

Don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;re fishing or sighstseeing, but the fishing is better both early AM and around dusk, when it%26#39;s cooler - assuming the water isn%26#39;t still muddy from the Spring run-off.

I would still take some insect repellant - just in case :-)

Have Fun, all of you!!

HeyPaula: Thanks for the great tips!
