Las Vegas/Yellowstone Park

We are planning to visit both Las Vegas and Yellowstone Park in June 2007. Would also like to see Grand Canyon and possibly Tetons but have no idea whether this is possible in two weeks!

Have no experience of USA so don%26#39;t know what order would be best, but would like about four nights/five days in Las Vegas with 9/10 to cover other areas.

Any advice as to the order would be most welcome. Happy to hire care and drive, or use internal flights.

Many thanks.

Here some basic input to start and I am sure many others will add their comments too! (Especially anyone who did this same route last year.)

Unless, you just love to drive, I would recommend dividing your trip into two pieces - Las Vegas and then a location in/near Yellowstone Park. Otherwise, you will spend a great deal of time driving between locations (740 miles each direction).

The order might depend on where and when you can get the better rates and availability. You can get flights from Las Vegas into Bozeman, MT; Idaho Falls, ID, Jackson Hole, WY or West Yellowstone, MT. These are cities that also have rental car agencies.

If you are planning on staying inside Yellowstone Park, you will want to book your lodging as soon as you confirm your itinerary as it fills quickly.

Hi Lamorna

Like Yellowstonefan said, split your time and leave GC for another time. 4/5 days in LV would be too long for me. We visited LV a couple of times and 2/3 days were enough to us. From Las Vegas to GTNP/Yellowstone NP you can make a fantastic drive and see the most stunnung NP%26#39;s and scenic surroundings. Maybe it%26#39;s a good idea to fligh into Las Vegas, drive to Yellowstone and leave from Salt Lake City, also a large I/A. After Las Vegas maybe drive north first to Valley of Fire SP and to Zion NP. You%26#39;ll need at least one day here. Drive to Bryce NP for at least a half a day visit and continue on ut12 to Torrey, one of the most fantastic route%26#39;s in the world. Also visit Capitol Reef from Torrey. From Torrey you can drive to Salt Lake City and to Yellowstone. It%26#39;s about a 5 hours drive from SLC to either West Yellowstone (Yellowstone NP) or Jackson (Grand Teton NP). You easily can spen 5 days in this area and don%26#39;t forget to drive Beartooth Pass to Red Lodge or Cody.

Many thanks for your advice - much appreciated - especially 2-3 days only in Las Vegas being enough time. Thanks again.

Hi Lamorna,

We%26#39;re planning the exact trip and would appreciate how your trip went. Have you made the trip? Would you recommend driving over flying?

Thanks in advance,

mary

We did that trip in 2007. We flew into Las Vegas, went to the GC, then West Yellowstone for YNP and then down to Jackson Hole and flew out of Salt Lake City. We did this all in 8 days. It was a whirlwind trip but we had a great time.
