Cheyenne Frontier Days
Hey there!
I%26#39;ve been looking into making a trip with some friends for the second weekend of Frontier Days - looks like a blast.
Admittedly, we are 20 something big-city yuppies who happen to like country music and experience new things.
A couple of questions for everyone:
1) Is there good night life (bars, dancing, etc...) in downtown Cheyenne for after the concerts?
2) Is there a decent 20-something crowd in town for these events?
3) Can you suggest some good local golf courses?
4) Hotels.com only has 7 economy-type hotels listed. Are there any recommended places to stay with pools/etc... that are close to all the ';action?'; (whatever that means :) ).
Thanks in advance!!!!!
Eddie
Cheyenne Frontier Days
Welcome to Cheyenne.
1. The Buckin A Saloon is a bar / dance tent right on the park and operates after the concerts are over each night. Downtown the Albany Bar, Crown Bar, and Depot Plaza are popular places, while just south of downtown is Cowboy South.
2. Lots of 20 somethings attend Frontier Days.
3. The Airport Golf Course and Little America golf course are both popular. Complete list: www.cheyenne.org/listings/index.cfm?catID=4
4. All hotels are within 10 minutes of the park and downtown. Here%26#39;s the full list: www.cheyenne.org/listings/index.cfm?catID=7
CALL THE LOCAL NUMBERS TO BOOK ROOMS.
Bring lots of friends. We look forward to seeing you here for one of the best parties in the West.
Cowboy South is what you want. South on 85 (the viaduct) It will be on your right. Albany is worth the trip for the historical aspect. Also, stop in at The Plains and look at the stained glass ceiling. More dancing West on Lincolnway to the Ramada, along with some of the best historical photos of the area. You%26#39;re going to want a big breakfast, I suggest The Diamond Horseshoe.. (again South on 85, right on 5th and left on the ';outer road';, which is Central). Try the breakfast burrito with green chili. Have fun. Don%26#39;t speed.
Keep us posted. :) If you don%26#39;t have a room yet, do so soon. (real soon)
Thanks for all the great repsonses. I%26#39;m going to try and book a hotel for Friday and Saturday night today.
Eddie
Call local numbers for the hotels since most block out 800 numbers and websites for Frontier Days bookings. Good luck!
So I was able to book two nights at the Ramada Hitching Post Inn. It seemed reasonably priced, in a good location and nice enough for our standards. Any thoughts on this one?
good choice. Lots of old photos there. you%26#39;ll like it. also a bar that can get pretty..interesting. DO look at the photos in there too. you%26#39;ll have a great time! ENJOY.. again.. don%26#39;t speed. and keep us posted on your trip.
I%26#39;ve thought of something that I think you%26#39;d really like. The Bunkhouse. Restaurant/bar/dancing. Authenticity. This place is remarkable. VERY GOOD food, mounts all over the place. Moose, elk, fish, birds. Excellent Prime Rib and dancing.
West on Lincolnway to Missle Drive. turn ';northish'; Right- ignore all the exits and end up on Happy Jack Road. 14 miles from town and VERY MUCH worth the trip for lunch or dinner.
you might want to rebook that room. Hitching Post is heading into bankruptcy. And that is a shame.
Cheyenne%26#39;s Hitching Post declares bankruptcy
Associated Press - February 6, 2009 2:05 PM ET
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Some Wyoming lawmakers say they%26#39;ll stay put at their temporary home of the Hitching Post Inn, despite the Cheyenne hotel%26#39;s bankruptcy declaration.
At least 11 senators and 16 representatives are lodging at the Hitching Post during the nine-week legislative session that began last month, according to a legislative directory.
The hotel%26#39;s owner, Mantiff Cheyenne Hospitality, filed to seek Chapter 11 protection this week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
According to court records, the corporation says its liabilities outweigh its assets by $3.6 million.
A few lawmakers moved out of the hotel on Tuesday when the local utility notified the Legislature that it might cut power to the hotel. The hotel remained open Friday.
A hotel manager has declined comment.
Yikes!
Thanks for the note and the PM. I%26#39;ll rebook ASAP.
