We are staying at Teton Mountain Lodge for 5 nights - 4 full days....
What are the ';MUST'; places to visit and how to get it all done in 4 days?
Any input would be GREATLY appreciated! We are flying into Jackson Hole and will have a rental car.
Also traveling with 2 daughters - age 9 and 7.
Thanks!!!!!
Must See's and Must Do's in Grand Teton and Yellowstone?
I see that you are new to the forums, and welcome!!!
With 4 days, you will have plenty of time to relax and drive to the sights in GTNP.
Be aware that, however, many times on this forum, folks have been advised that they NOT use GTNP/Jackson as a base for Yellowstone NP. The latter is huge, and getting there and back in a day is a lot of driving, unless you choose, say, one or two significant points. And you probably know that you cannot see it all.
To see YNP, it%26#39;s best to allow at least two, preferably more, days at that park. Were it possible, I suggest reversing your accommodations and stay in or adjacent to YNP, and visit GTNP for a day.
YNP is an experience, and time is needed to do enjoy it. It is not a ';drive through for the scenery park'; as is, say, Crater Lake and GTNPs (unless hiking). YNP is a stop and go, see the wildlife everywhere, walk the paths and boardwalks at the volcanic sights, and so much more.
You and your kids will enjoy the Tetons, and the beauty and many activities available.
I%26#39;d put money on YNP, even more.
Must See's and Must Do's in Grand Teton and Yellowstone?
I agree that Yellowstone requires more time than Tetons! See if you can get reservations in Yellowstone for at least 2 nights! Also any chance of adding a day or 2? www.nps.gov/grte and www.nps.gov/yell for ideas and info. Have your kids look and see what they would like to do!!
Day 1 arrive Jackson. Stay there.
Day 2 Visit Tetons then drive to Yellowstone for the night. Maybe stay at Old Faithful or Canyon areas.
Day 3 Yellowstone
Day 4 Yellowstone most of the day, then to Tetons/Jackson for the night
Day 5 Depart.
What time of the year will you be in Jackson?
There are plenty of things to see and do around Jackson. Not necessary to make the trip to Yellowstone if you don%26#39;t have the time.
You will have time to do some white water rafting, fly fishing on the Snake River, paragliding off the mountain (OK you may be a little old, but your kids would love it), hiking around Jenny Lake, sniff the wildflowers, visit the waterfalls in Idaho, petting the moose and elk (just kidding, don%26#39;t pet the big ones), eating pizza at Dornan%26#39;s on the Snake River, breakfast at Nora%26#39;s, lunch on the butte at the Granary for the million dollar view. Heck, the car ride up and down the pass to Victor and Driggs Idaho would be exciting, steepest grade in America. Rent that car with the good brakes.
Are you really going to have breakfast at the Mangy Moose, of course you are? Are you going to the rodeo?
I think you are going to have to let your kids make some of these plans.
My wife and I preferred Jackson %26amp; The Grand Teton NP to Yellowstone NP. There%26#39;s plenty to do in the area for your 4 day break.
The Teton Park Road follows the base of the Teton Range from Moose to Jackson Lake Junction.
The Jenny Lake Scenic Drive skirts Jenny Lake and provides spectacular views of the peaks; the scenic drive is one-way and begins just south of String Lake. Get a ferry across Jenny Lake to walk up to Inspiration Point via Cascade Canyon.
Try Menor%26#39;s Ferry Historic Site and Chapel of the Transfiguration, plus Luppine Meadows.
The Signal Mountain Summit Road climbs 800 feet (242 metres) to fabulous panoramic views of the Teton Range, Jackson Hole valley, and Jackson Lake (weather permiting!)
There are some lovely picnic/swimming spots on the shore of Jackson Lake at Colter Bay Village. Up from Moran is Oxbow Bend where you can canoe.
Jackson has some great restaurants.
Enjoy!
