We will be spending 8 days at YNP the end of August. We are flying in and out of Jackson Hole. My thought is 2 nights in Jackson Hole (have reservations at Cowboy Village), 3 nights at Canyon (have reservations at Western Cabins). This is where I%26#39;m stuck. Where to next? I%26#39;m thinking the last night back in Jackson Hole. Getting reservations at another location in the park is very limited this late. Should I try to find something in Cooke City or West Yellowstone? We are going to see and enjoy the park and wildlife...Thank you very much for any advice.
Advice on Lodging
I%26#39;d call Xanterra every day (don%26#39;t rely on the website) until you find something available at Lake or Tower. The latter provides easy access to Lamar Valley and the northeastern part of the park, including exploring the Beartooth Hwy. Otherwise, Cooke City sounds good. In this way, you can forge an itinerary focusing on where you%26#39;ll be lodged.
You can take a break and see W. Yellowstone anytime, since you have so much time (and that is a good thing!).
Bring binocular(s).
Advice on Lodging
You could go out the east entrance and go spend a day in Cody- great museums and the rodeo.
IMO you%26#39;ll best enjoy the Park and its wildlife by staying in it as much as you can. I would suggest that you keep calling Xanterra - I%26#39;m sure that between now and Aug. you%26#39;ll be able to get a couple more nights in the Park. I would try for the Lake area and/or a night or 2 at OF.
Your nights in Jackson will give you a good base for exploring GTNP, as well as any river rafting or other activities you might be planning. BarT5 has a fun Chuckwagon dinner there if that appeals to you.
Good Luck!
I took your advice and others and contacted Xanterra by phone. I was pleased to find availability at Roosevelt and Lake. So now I%26#39;m thinking 1 night Lake, 2 nights Canyon and 2 nights Roosevelt. I didn%26#39;t ask about OF....hate to pick up and move much more than 3 times. Any thoughts? Thanks.
