cody, wy to yellowstone

okay-- first of all, thanks to all who helped with how many days to stay ';where'; within Yellowstone a few weeks ago. We now have the trip planned, reserved and pre-paid. (this trip was a gift of sorts) So-- dates and places cannot be changed now. We will be coming over night in Cody, Wy the last day of Aug. The 1st of Sept, one night at Old Faithful lodge, then 3 nights at one of the cabins at Canyon. I keep seeing mention of the Beartooth pass. Should I plan that from Cody even tho the first night in yellowstone will be at Old Faithful and obviously coming thru Beartooth pass brings us in thru the ne entrance. How do I GET to the pass (best way from Cody) I am thinking that even if I am ';short changed'; at the geyser area spending so much of the day getting there, I%26#39;d be okay since I can always drive down an afternoon if needed from Canyon area? What do you all think? Add in the Beartooth Pass? I might mention that coming from Ohio... we will nto likely be back out this way again and I do not want to miss something. Was in the soutwest 2 years ago and did the San Juan Skyway and loved that... (just to give you an idea of the situation and likes)

On August 17, the road from Norris Junction to Madison Junction will close for reconstruction and remain closed for the rest of the season. Normally I%26#39;d recommend the Beartooth, but coming into the northeast entrance and going to Old Faithful means you turn south at Tower Junction and go south all the way to Yellowstone Lake and then to West Thumb before heading northwest to Old Faithful. That adds a lot of distance and time as the speed limit is 45 in the park. If you could get a room for the first night at Tower-Roosevelt instead of Old Faithful, then the Beartooth would be a great route. Call the reservations number and see if you can get your reservation changed. There are cancellations and you might get your first night in Canyon which would be a decent area too.

How about heading home via the Beartooth? Seems like that might fit in better. Leave via the NE exit, take it up to Red Lodge and then onto Billings, pick up 90, and be on your way back to Ohio.

first off-- my apologies for submitting this twice. Not my intent. Didn%26#39;t realize anyone had responded to this one. thanks for the help-- I think I will take one of the 3 days at Canyon area to make a day run to Beartooth pass.

Cannot head home that direction because from yellowstone, we%26#39;re headed to Tetons for 2 days, an over night in Laramie, then 2 nights at the Rockies Natl Park. Home to Ohio from there. If we were heading home from Yellowstone? I%26#39;d definitely plan it for the trip home, but not doable. good idea tho-- and appreciate the help.
