Hello All-
Here is our itinerary for an upcoming trip our West.
Day 1 - Philadelphia to Radid City, SD. Including stops at Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. Overnight in Devil%26#39;s Tower. (Devil%26#39;s Tower Best Western)
Day 2 - Morning stop at Devil%26#39;s Tower. Drive toward Yellowstone. Overnight in Cody, WY (The Cody)
Day 3 - Enter Yellowstone at East Gate. Do Northern loop. Overnight at Canyon Village
Day 4 - Yellowstone Part 2. Overnight at Old Faithful Inn
Day 5 - Yellowstone .. take AM Photo Safari; Return at 11:00 a.m. and depart for Grand Teton National Park. PM - Take scenic loop drive at Grand Teton National Park. Overnight at Jackson Lodge
Day 6 - ????? AM - Continue to discover rest of Park.
Now here is my question. On Day 7, we depart from Jackson Hole Airport in the early am.
Would you recommend spending another full day in Grand Teton or heading to Jackson for the afternoon on Day 6. Hiking is not high on our list of things to do.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Karen
Grand Teton or Jackson?
We%26#39;ve made the early morning run from Jackson Lake Lodge to the airport twice. You have to get up pretty early. I think our flights were at 8:00AM.
Nothing wrong with spending the evening before in Jackson to see what it looks like. We don%26#39;t much like it but no reason not to check it out once for yourself.
Here%26#39;s a link to our pictures and a report from our visit to the Tetons.

We were mostly in Yellowstone.
Grand Teton or Jackson?
Mapquest lists Philadelphia to Rapid City as 26 hours 6 minutes. THAT%26#39;s what I call a long day.
Ooops you%26#39;re flying to Rapid City.
Never mind.
Good morning Karen,
I%26#39;m a bit confused here. The way I read your itinerary, you are driving out to YNP/GTNP for four days and flying back? OR are you flying to Rapid City, renting a car there and flying home from Jackson? I suppose I just answered my own question....sorry... it%26#39;s early here!
Anyway, to answer YOUR question, we hate being rushed on a flight day, so for us it
would be(always has been)overnight as close to the airport as possible on departure day.
If you%26#39;re not into hiking, you will have some of day 5 and most of day 6 to spend in GTNP. That should give you plenty of time there, without staying overnight and having to be rushing to the airport at some crazy hour in the morning on day 7, to begin an all day trip home.
Compared to Yellowstone, GTNP is not that big, so I would suggest spending a relaxing day in GTNP on day 6 and winding up at your reservation in Jackson by late afternoon or early evening. You could spend a few hours wandering around the town square, maybe have a nice dinner at The Gunbarrel, get a good night%26#39;s sleep, and be ready to face the early flight home in the morning.
I%26#39;d spend some time in Cody for the Buffalo Bill Museums. A place that should not be missed. 2 full days In Yell are short. Those loopdrives take a lot of time because you will want to stop many times for scenery and wildlife and that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re there for of course. Spend as long as possible in Yellowstone. Maybe drive early in the morning to GTNP day 6 and spend rest of the day. Hope those Tetons aren%26#39;t in the clouds.
