hi everyone im hoping i can get some help, my husband and i are from australia planning a trip to the USA leaving here october 27th returning to australia november 24th.
we are planning on arriving in new york and travelling by car to new orleans, fly from new orleans to las vegas.
then we are unsure of a few things, we are wanting to spend 5 -6 days in LA with a day trip to Tijuana.
then we also want to go to sanfransisco for a couple of days and also see yellowstone park and mount rushmore but we are very limited on time, is it possible or is there any type of tours or day trips that are max 1-4 days that would include yellowstome and mount rushmore??? ive been looking at so many travel brochures but there isnt many options especially for the dates we are after.
it isnt set as to what airport we are departing from yet it depends on whether we go from LA and go to sfc then a tour then we would depart from sfc or if we get a tour from LA to Yellowstone tour then head onto sfc then back to LA for flight...
we are so confused.. can anyone help??
regards
lisa
yellow stone and mount rushmore day trips or tours?
You are arriving at the transition between fall and winter in the northern part of the United States. Where I live, it isn%26#39;t uncommon to have some snow before the middle of October (ususlly melts in a few days or less, but nor guaranteed) and by the middle of November it often is quite cold. Some of the area you are planning to visit are at high altitude which makes this even worse, some are wide open prairie where the roads have gates that are closed if the snow and wind make travel too dangerous.
Please take a look at this page from Yellowstone park and note the fall road closure dates. Note that some roads will be closed before your trip begins and all except from Gardiner to Cooke City through the northern part of the park will be closed by November 1.

If it isn%26#39;t too late to change your dates for your trip, I think you will have a much better experience in the U.S.
Side note: Last winter an acquaintance was traveling from western Wyoming, just south of Yellowstone Park, to northern Minnesota. He go caught in a bad snowstorm, got stuck in a snow drift on a major highway and spent 2 days in his car waiting for the road to be reopened. He was prepared because he knew this could happen, but you might not be.

Yellowstone requires, in season, at least two days, preferably four or five, to fully explore, see, experience, it. And this is, as noted above, not the best time to do so for the reasons given.
Perhaps another time...
I%26#39;m unsure why so much time in LA or Tiajuana, but, of course, to each his own. I%26#39;d give more time to San Francisco...
I suggest you consider, instead of YNP, the incredible National Parks noted herein:

Great time to visit there if you have not yet done so.
Keep popping your questions and route ideas, all would be glad to advise.
Almost all of Yellowstone Park closes for the winter November 1 and only the northern entrance at Mammoth is open. You won%26#39;t be able to see the famous geysers or canyon area.
I agree with above, look at visiting the national parks in Arizona and Utah, including Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon.
I would not go to Tijuana, very difficult times in the border towns now with drug wars etc, plus really not that much to do.
