Tell me about the rough rider cabins at Roosevelt

Now that the Canyon pioneer cabin is apparently out, I%26#39;m looking at the rough rider cabins in Roosevelt. Dh and I don%26#39;t mind rustic, but I am a bit concerned about the bathroom situation. Not about having to share, but about bears, and using the restroom at night;-). How far is the bathroom from the cabins? Any chances of stumbling across a bear or other critters on the way to the bathroom at night? Any other opinions on these cabins (good or bad)?

Thanks!

Kelly

Tell me about the rough rider cabins at Roosevelt

Let me start by saying that I really like Roosevelt. I like the area, the lodge and the restaurant.

We%26#39;ve stayed in pioneer cabins twice. Our walk to the bathroom wasn%26#39;t far and wasn%26#39;t a problem. We didn%26#39;t see any bears anywhere near the cabins, day or night. And yes we were on the path at night. With a flashlight.

If its cold, we did find them hard to heat. One night we slept warm under the blankets but had to get ready quickly in the morning.

I%26#39;d stay there again without issue. I%26#39;d try for a bathroom in the cabin but not getting one wouldn%26#39;t keep me away. They%26#39;re a little like tent camping with hard walls.

Here%26#39;s some pictures from Roosevelt including a peek at our cluttered cabin.

Get one with two double beds if you can for a little more room.
