Early June Rafting

HI

My Husband and I are staying in Colter Bay Village June 3rd 2009 and Yellowstone (canyon area)

June 4th-June 8th and back to Colter Bay Village

June 9th. Fly Home June 10th

We had a blast last year. But this year want to try white water rafting for the first time.

Is it available the 1st week of June?

What company would you recommend based on where we will be staying and quality service and fun experience for us?

Any help is appreciated.

Also will horse back riding be available that early in season and who would you recommend?

Thank you

Arline

Early June Rafting

I think you need to call the outfitter that would do the raft trip and ask them. Sometimes the water may be too high for safety and they would be the ones to know that information.

Early June Rafting

Thank you RM-MN,

I will call the outfitter to be sure that white water rafting is even an option that early in June.

Do you have a recommendation as to which Rafting company would be the best to call?

Two rafting companies that I would recommend are Barker-Ewing and Dave Hansen, both based in Jackson Hole WY.

They both have good reputations and do a good job. They certainly wouldn%26#39;t take groups out when the water conditions aren%26#39;t safe - as may be the case at that time of year.

The only horseback riding I%26#39;ve done in YNP has been with the Park stables, scheduled through Xanterra. There are many other outfitters licensed to operate in the Park also, but I%26#39;ve not had any personal experience with them. Here is a link to a list of them: www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/stockbusn.htm

Good Luck - and Have Fun!

The best whitewater rafting in the area is the Snake River just out of Jackson and the beginning of June is an excellent time of the year to get on the river. You have the warmer temperatures that cause the snow melt and some higher water, but it is still a fun and safe trip. It is nice to go down with experienced guides. There are some good companies in the area, but my family over the last few years has gone with Dave Hansen Whitewater whenever they are in town and has a great time. They are a smaller company with a lot of returning guides year after year.

For horseback riding and where you are staying, I would check out Togwotee Mountain Lodge. They have horseback riding and the area is beautiful. Jackson Lake Lodge is also very close to Colter Bay and has great places to ride as well.

We went with Dave Hansen Whitewater last year and had a great trip. It was later in the year then you are coming, but the trip was a lot of fun and our guides seemed to be really experienced. We are coming back again this year and booked a package with them with horseback riding and a whitewater trip. Here is the link www.davehansenwhitewater.com/packages.shtml

Thank you Thank you everyone.

i am going to try the links and make some inquiries
