14 vs. 14A?

Which is the more scenic route to Cody from I-90 - Rt. 14 through Greybull or 14A through Lovell? We will be traveling in a couple of weeks.

14 vs. 14A?

Shell Canyon on 14 to Greybull is very scenic. Great when going down towards the west but a long uphill climb going east. Very similar to Ten Sleep Canyon (US-16) farther south into Worland. Majestic red cliffs dotted with Cedar type trees. My vote would be on US-14 over 14A for scenery although it is a bit more twisty turny so requires a little more concentration driving. Between 14 and 16 I%26#39;ve always liked Ten Sleep (16 out of Buffalo) better. But a lot depends on if you%26#39;ll be heading from I-90 starting at Sheridan or Buffalo.

Distance to Cody for both is similar for each from Buffalo or Sheridan but about 40 miles less using the one closest to the north or south route. That is...use 14 if starting at Sheridan but use 16 if starting at Buffalo. But don%26#39;t gpo through Buffalo to get to Sheridan to take 14 since 16 is so similar anyway.

Either way there should still be a bit of snow at the top of either pass.

14 vs. 14A?

Don%26#39;t you mean: ';My vote would be 14A over 14 for scenery although it is a bit more twisty';'; Sequim?

Thanks Sequim. It sounds like we%26#39;ll stick with Rt. 14, as originally planned. We like ';twisty turny'; roads!

I think I said what I thought I meant to...14, to me, is more scenic than 14A. Maybe it%26#39;s just memory tricks since I%26#39;ve done Shell Canyon (14) a lot more recently (and more times)than 14A (and Ten Sleep Canyon on 16 far more than both the others). The main thing I recall driving both canyons is the back and forth way the road follows the contour of the canyon above Shell Creek. Also the red color of the rocks

14A to Lovell has some nice vistas to the West and a twisty bit at the end (about 22 miles before Lovell) but less of the red rocks and cliffs seen in Shell Canyon.

I%26#39;ll make a point of trying 14A again when we pass through the area in August. It%26#39;s easily been 30 years since we went that way. Maybe combine it with Beartooth Pass on our way from Chico Hot Springs to Deadwood.
