advice on route from denver to custer then yellowstone park
I think you should plan much more time in Yellowstone and less time in the Black Hills. You don%26#39;t really have time to go to UT and LV, just too much driving.
Day 1 Arrive Denver
Day 2 Drive to Custer SD
Day 3 Custer SD area
Day 4 Deadwood
Day 5 Cody WY
Day 6 YS
Day 7 YS
Day 8 YS
Day 9 Tetons
Day 10 Tetons to Denver area
Day 11 Denver, fly to Vegas.
advice on route from denver to custer then yellowstone park
thanks for your advice what are the roads like and weather at the end of may /i am by the way flying from england to denver and flying back from vegas i am over for 22 days.i want to spend a few days in vegas to unwind.
daveyboy7, you sure confused me! Your original post is hard to read as to which location for how many days, so I, too, thought you had about 13 days or less. Your last post says 22 days. If you would clarify the number of days, by destination, we could be more helpful. Also, unsure why two days in Logan. With 22 days, if that is correct, you could do better, including the SW Utah National Parks. I agree also that you should try for more days in YNP.
To begin with don%26#39;t underestimate the vastness of the areas you plan to be visiting. This will be a LOT of driving. Wherever possible sequence them to avoid back tracking. Use tools such as GoogleMaps to get a sense of the driving time (note...routes that involve seasonal closing will not be shown until they are open).
For instance....
Day 0 - Arrive Denver...go to a local hotel. If early morning arrival see some local sites and stay up until local time bedtime. Get used to time change.
Day 1 - Drive to Custer (via I-25 to Orin and US 18/85/16) With stops this can take about a day.
Days 2-3-4....Custer 2 nts , Deadwood 1
Day 5 - drive to Sheridan, via Devils Tower,
Days 6-7 at Sheridan, suggest day trip up to Little Bighorn battlefield otherwise one day (2 nts) at Sheridan would be plenty.
Day 8 - Granite Pass and Shell Canyon via US-14 to Greybull and Cody enroute to YNP. Not much time to see Cody. Option one day only in Sheridan and add a night in Cody.
Days 9-12 at YNP (probably too late to stay in park, reserve soon for somewhere like West Yellowstone).
Day 13 To Logan via US-89
Days 14-15 at Logan (anything in particular attracting to there?).
Day 16 to Cedar City (why not St. George?)....
Days 17-18 visit nearby Zion and Bryce Canyon NPs. Day 19 to Las Vegas or...maybe loop around on US-89alt through Flagstaff and see Grand Canyon North rim on way then I-40 to Kingman and US-93 past Hoover Dam to Las Vegas. Making it there on Day 19 with 3 days to unwind.
Of course the above is pretty rough and lots of details would need ot be filled in. Especially to accomodate particular interests. Maybe more time in some places and less in others.
Weather in late-May in Wyoming (and nearby) can be anything. I%26#39;ve seen hot and sunny as well snow enough to pack on the roads as late a June 6th. Usually though the roads will be no more than wet at the worst although it can be very windy and chilly, especially on mountain passes. Pack to accomodate layering.
thanks for taking the time and trouble giving me advice on my trip i take on board what advice you hace given me
