Chief Joseph Highway

Just a quick note. The Chief Joseph Highway is now open from Cooke City to Cody. (Unless there is a large, unexpected snow storm).

Chief Joseph Highway

Thanks for the info. I%26#39;m coming in through Cody next week. When I called the road condition line last night they said that the road from Cody into the park was closed due to snow. It looks like it will be warmer next week and hopefully it was just a one-night snowstorm or something.

That said, I was thinking of bring the CJH from Cody to Cooke City and on into the park through the valley next Monday. I wanted to hit the north part of the park first. Is that a nice ride? Will I be missing anything by not bringing Cody directly into the east entrance?

If you are local, what is your feel for what the road conditions will be next week. I know anything can happen but looking at projected weather sites it seems it should be getting better. I know that Dunraven Pass will probably be closed, but I don%26#39;t want to drive all the way to Cody and find I need to somehow come in the north entrance of the park.

Thanks.

Cindy - There is still alot of snow in the higher areas of the park. Yesterday, there were high winds which closed Sylvan Pass (the east entrance closure you saw).

This morning%26#39;s weather report called for slightly warmer temperatures over the next five days with an occasional shower (which could mean snow at the higher altitudes). However, this forecast is an improvement over the past two weeks.

If you can take the Chief Joseph Highway north from Cody and into the NE entrance, I would. But, I always recommend checking on road conditions before doing so. Call the 24-hour Current Road Report hotline at (307) 344-2117 for the latest information on conditions affecting roads within the park.

I will take the hotline number with me and hope for the best. It looks like by Sunday things will warm up a little. I just don%26#39;t want to get to Cody and not be able to get into the park without some really long detour.

Thanks again.

Cindy

One more question. If I call the hotline, will it tell me if the stretch is closed anywhere from Cody along the Chief Joseph Highway and on into the Northeast entrance to the park?

Thanks.

It should, but here are a couple of other numbers:

Wyoming Traffic Reports - 1-888-WYO-ROAD (1-888-996-7623)

Montana Road Reports - 1.800.226.7623

You can also dial 511 from your cell phone from whatever state that you are in.

I%26#39;ve made a note. Thanks
