Lake Yellowstone cabin or Canyon Lodge

Our family of 4 will be in Yellowstone in mod August for 2 nts. Should we stay in Lake Yellowstone cabins or Canyon Lodge for best location?

Lake Yellowstone cabin or Canyon Lodge

I like Canyon better because its a little closer to Lamar Valley but either is a good choice.

When staying at Canyon, we frequently drive to Lake at dawn and then back before heading north to Lamar. Maybe it really makes no difference at all.

Never been in the cabins at Lake Lodge but the lodge itself is nice and has a porch with chairs. Rockers maybe.

Lake Yellowstone cabin or Canyon Lodge

Both locations are pretty centrally located, so I would take a room at whichever location is available.

The cabins at Canyon are a bit newer and there is a beautiful Visitor%26#39;s Center, as well as a large general store, there.

The Western cabins at Lake Lodge are older, but some have been remodeled recently. The area doesn%26#39;t have as many ';amenities'; as far as stores, etc., although there is a small general store and a gift shop at the Lodge. It is also less congested for that reason.

The Lake area is about 15 miles south of Canyon, so is closer if you%26#39;re going to Old Faithful. If you%26#39;re going north it%26#39;s a little further away - however, you get to drive through Hayden Valley on the way, which is beautiful!

Have Fun!

Have stayed in both. Canyon is a teeny bit more centrally located but is a bit more congested-Lake is a really nice atmosphere. However, depending on the type of cabin, Canyon is usually a whole lot cheaper-$65 cheaper in our case this summer. If you%26#39;re looking at that much of a difference for your dates, take Canyon. Otherwise, you can%26#39;t go wrong with either location.

Just to clarify: by Lake, I mean the cabins at Lake Yellowstone Hotel. Have not stayed at Lake Lodge which is nearby, but different.

We%26#39;ve stayed at the cabins at Lake Yellowstone last year, and were so happy there, we%26#39;ve reserved to stay there again for 3 nights next month. I love that there%26#39;s a buffalo that hangs around by the cabin (at least he did last year), and eating at the General Store is fun. Canyon Lodge looked too ';busy'; to us.

Thanks for the input from everyone! I think that since I%26#39;m driving my wife crazy changing plans so often - and because it sounds like I can%26#39;t go wrong either way - that I will stick with the cabin at Lake Yellowstone that we already have reserved. I%26#39;ll check the Canyon area out and may stay there next time, because I am sure there will be a next time. Thanks again.

We stayed at both Lake Yellowstone cabins (little yellow ones) and Canyon Fronteir cabins. I definately enjoyed the Little Yellow cabins better. Better upkeep, nicer ';neighborhood'; as far as being less crowded, and I loved being able to get up and have morning coffee by the lake if I wanted to.

Canyon is quite congested and the cabins were dingier and older. The Heat was on 90 when we arrived in Late July and they could not fix it, but they did respond quickly and brought us a fan.

Definately yellow cabins is my first choice!

Have fun!!
