We are planing on a 2 night stay in the Teton area as the end of a 2 week trip out west(begining of August) . We will have already stayed in yellowstone. Because we have 3 kids (8, 14, 15) I have been looking at condos and have found availability at Springcreek ranch and Teton Mountain Lodge both look nice. Springcreek ranch looks like it has amazing views but it is more isolated so we would need to drive into Jackson for meals etc. TML looks nice also but you are only looking at the empty slopes? Both offer a pool etc for the kids for downtime. I am also condsidering Jackson Lake Lodge They still have queen cottage rooms but we would neeed 2 rooms and would not have the amenities of a kitchen. The rooms look rundown and without a view. I am having a hard time seeing the advantage to ataying here when the total price for any of these options is in the same ballpark. Anyone knowing of these place where would you recomend?
Spring creek ranch or Teton Mountain Lodge?
Between the 3, I think you summed up the general advantages and disadvantages.
However, given that you have kids, I would probably put a plug in for staying in Teton Village (Teton Mtn Lodge) because there are various activities as well as restaurants there. In the summer there are mtn bike rentals, a climbing wall and some other big ';trampoline'; jumps kind of things for kids (or adults!). The GT Music Festival has performances in the evenings there also. You can ride the gondola up the mountain for great views. There is also good horseback riding there that borders on GTNP. There is a public bus that you can take into town (if you don%26#39;t feel like driving or if the kids wanted to do that on their own) that costs $3/pp/each way. And yes, you will be looking at the empty (but pretty and green) slopes of the Mountain.
The advantage of Spring Creek is the views. There are stunning views from up there on the butte--views of the entire Teton Range. You can also horseback ride (my assumption is that it would be more expensive, though). But no bus and no other restaurants (except at the Amangani hotel).
Spring creek ranch or Teton Mountain Lodge?
The views are stunning at the Spring Creek Ranch and the accommodations are first class. There is another restaurant in between the Amangani and SCR, it%26#39;s called the Granary. It%26#39;s built into the side of the cliff. The views at breakfast and lunch are equally stunning. The elk loin they serve at dinner is just superb. The big activity is horseback riding, although they have both an indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
I%26#39;ve stayed at both and I will tell you, you won%26#39;t be disappointed staying at the Teton Mountain Lodge. It is beautiful! I%26#39;ve stayed at Spring Creek and it is out of the way. The only place to eat is the Granery, its OK. It is hit-or-miss with the condo that you get. Read the reviews and look at the travelers pictures, We(my family and my 11mo. old and 5 year old) got stuck with a terrible one, the photos are on the review. But there are some nice condos up there. They are individually owned, so depending how someone%26#39;s style of decor and what they think it updated, you could get stuck with. You won%26#39;t go wrong with the Teton Mountain Lodge and there%26#39;s lots for the kids to do up there. Have a great trip.
