Weather and Road Conditions Next week

I am planning a cross country trip to Yellowstone, arriving next Monday. I just called the travel or road hotline and they said the road from the east into the park from Cody was closed due to snow conditions. I checked the weather for Cody for next Monday and it looks like a high of 76 and a low of 51. I suppose that could be wrong, but we are planning a trip from Cody into the park next week. I will keep the hotline number handy, but I have reservations at the Lake Hotel and then OFI.

Does anyone have information on local conditions? Will Dunraven Pass most likely be closed yet next week? We will be arriving on Monday, at least that was the plan, and leaving on Thursday.

Any advise?

Weather and Road Conditions Next week

Check the road conditions on the Yellowstone website www.nps.gov/yell . Dunraven Pass is not scheduled to open until May 22.

There still will be plenty to do and see, just be prepared for any kind of weather and conditions. Snow, mud, sun, wind, rain, clear!

Weather and Road Conditions Next week

I thought that Dunraven%26#39;s Pass would probably not be open, but I am more worried about getting into the park through the east entrance through Cody. They said that road was closed last night due to snow. I%26#39;m hoping by next week it will be open. That was my plan as we are coming from the east.

Actually I was thinking about coming from Cody and taking 296 to the northeast entrance and around to Mammoth Hot Springs to start our trip up there. I wanted to go through the valley there on our way in.

I%26#39;m hoping it was just a bad night last night and the road will be open in a day or two.

I will pack for all conditions, but any locals have any information about the east entrance of the park weather and snow-wise? What about my choice to take 296 from Cody to the northeast entrance? Is that a pretty drive? Will I miss a lot if I go that way as opposed to going in on 14/16?

Thanks. Everyone is great on this page.

Highway 296, also known as the Chief Joseph highway, is a very scenic route, better than highway 16 from Cody to the east entrance in my opinion. I%26#39;d take this if it is open and you don%26#39;t mind getting into the park north of Dunraven Pass and not being able to travel south over it.

Thanks for the information. I think I will come in the northeast entrance. That way we can do the scene route and come through Lamarr Valley and Mammoth. I realize Dunraven Pass will be closed and it will be the long way around, but we plan to see all that anyway. We are staying at the Lake Annex so we%26#39;ll get the northern part done and then spend another day or two in the lower loop.

I did just call again and the road to the eastern entrance is open again. I%26#39;m hoping by next week things will be a little warmer.

Starting to get excited!
