Wildlife toursGoogle turns up a list of them. For example:
jacksonholenet.com/guides_tours/wildlife_tou…
Why not review different ones and find which appeal to you in time, comfort, cost. Then, if you have questions, inquire of TA.
Wildlife toursWe toured with the first company on the list provided by Voyaging, and it was a first class act all the way, from my initial contact with the reservations person, to the tour itself. I would highly recommend their two day tour for a first taste of GTNP and YNP.

Brushbuck does a great job. Smaller tours and they live in Jackson year around and have a great knowledge as to where to find wildlife depending on the weather and the time of year. The guides are excpetional and our very experienced.
I was looking at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris%26#39; ';Grand Teton National Park'; safari, in part because they do a pickup in Teton Village where we will be staying. Any experience/comments on them? There are 2 adults; we don%26#39;t want a huge bus tour.
Also, I am assuming that we will see more wildlife with a tour than driving around the park on our own on May 15th--true? What kinds of animals might be out and about then? (I get the impression it is pretty early in the season then, true?)
I have no personal experience with that operator, but none of the day trip operators that I%26#39;ve seen use ';Huge Busses.'; Most use standard vans or 10 to 15 passenger mini-busses, depending on the size of the group.
For a short stay such as you will have, a narrated tour is probably the best way for you to experience GTNP. May 15th is pretty early in the season, but depending on the weather conditions on the day of your visit, you should have no trouble spotting plenty of wildlife, including some of the newborn bison calves. Other wildlife sightings might include, elk, pronghorns, deer, moose, and possibly bears, both blacks and grizzlies, with cubs.
While they really can%26#39;t show you anything that you can not see on your own, the local tour guides know thier way around, and have a pretty good idea where to find the various critters that call the area home, thereby saving the visitor with limited time a lot of that time and gas searching on thier own.
The tours are also great at educating visitors about the ecology, the history, and the geology of the parks, as well as finding wildlife.
Most of the tour companies offer free pickup in Teton Village.
We went on the Jackson Hole Wildlife Safari%26#39;s Yellowstone Safari jacksonholewildlifesafaris.com/summersafaris…
on May 15th. Jason (the owner) was our guide. It was excellent!! He picked us up at the hotel in Teton Village at 7 AM and we got back around 6 or 6:30. We went thru Grand Teton, saw a lot of wildlife, up to Yellowstone. He did not charge extra for the Teton Village pickup; the one the hotel had recommended did want to charge us an extra $25 if we did not drive into Jackson for the tour.
We saw zillions of moose, elk, bison, coyote, mule deer, ground squirrels, etc. No bears. But then we did see one young brown bear today on Moose-Wilson Rd on the way to the airport. And lots of birds (I am not a birder so I can%26#39;t elaborate except I do recall a nesting osprey at the canyon falls).
We took a wildlife tour out of West Yellowstone to Lamar Valley last June. We saw all the usual wildlife, plus wolves, and 3 grizzlies. We were probably just at the right place at the right time and saw as much wildlife on our own later as we did on the tour.
Would I do it again? Yes, especially if it was my first visit. The tour guide was delightful and gave us a lot of insight into the park as well as advice on what to do on our own and advice on how to spot wildlife. The biggest plus was it gave me (the driver for the trip) a full day to just look out the window and take in the beauty of it all without having to watch out for traffic and bison. Have a great trip.
This area is a beautiful piece of heaven on earth.
what kind of vehicle did you go in, bus, van, safari style suburban? Did you stop for lunch? How long did you stay at old faithful? Thanks
what kind of vehicle did you go in, bus, van, safari style suburban?
--It was a Suburban or some such SUV. I did not really notice. We were the only guests on the trip. It was a comfortable vehicle.
Did you stop for lunch?
--Yes. I had also been little worried about getting rest stops for bio-breaks, but Jason has that down before and after lunch. They do a picnic lunch later in the season but this was the start and it was cold so we had lunch at the Yellowstone restaurant, whatever we wanted. Included in price.
How long did you stay at old faithful?
--We got to the hotel where the restaurant was about half an hour before the next expected eruption, so we looked around on our own (spouse explored hotel lobby, which is amazing; I looked at gift shop) and on Jason%26#39;s advice we went out to the viewing area about 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Good thing--it was 10 minutes early! We saw the eruption then had lunch at the hotel dining room. I am not sure how long in all, I was not keeping track of time.
Thanks
--My pleasure. I highly recommend this company. Jason was an excellent guide (e.g., he looked at the wind direction and had told us where to stand to best see the eruption--the main crowd ended up downwind and could not see it so well!) and knew all about the animals, geology, birds, etc. as well as being excellent company for the day. Also, this company is not so expensive as the one the hotel recommended --Wilderness Expeditions. That one would have been $35/pp more and they also wanted another $25 to pick us up in Teton Village, which annoyed me enough to look online for alternatives.
