Jackson is the town to the south of the park, and it is worth the stop for a night, but it sounds as if you have a short stay planned, so you may want to skip it unless you want to spend a day in Grand Teton. Jackson is not practical at all for seeing Yellowstone, as it takes an hour just to drive to the south enterance of the park, and another hour plus to any of the main park attractions.

To see Yellowstone, I would stay at one of the lodges or cabins in the park. Yellowstone is huge, and you will want stay as close as possible, or you will spend half you time in the car. No need to change hotels, if you stay in the park. But it can cut down on drive time if you stay one night at each of the areas you plan to see. Park lodging books months in advance, so I would start looking at what is available. Your budget and plans on what you want to see/do will affect your options.

As for driving to Cody, there really is only one road -- through the park, East from Fishing Bridge to hwy 14, 16.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think I will skip Jackson. Someone has told me to stay at Canyon Lodge. What do you think about it? Good Position? I wpould prefer one night at south entrance, one at west and one at east

If you are planning to stay in the Park, you need to make reservations ASAP.

Here is Xanterra%26#39;s website: www.travelyellowstone.com/lodging-71.html This will give you information about the lodging options, and also has a link to a YNP map. I would suggest calling them, as they will be able to give you the most current availability. It changes frequently and the website can%26#39;t keep up.

Canyon is a very good choice - it%26#39;s probably the most central location. I also like the Lake area - it%26#39;s less congested and very scenic - also pretty central.

You might want to consider a night at Old Faithful - there are several options there. That way you could cut down some of the driving when exploring that area.

Grant Village is the first lodging area when coming from the south - but it%26#39;s not very well located for general sightseeing, so I would still recommend the other choices.

Good Luck - and come back with any further questions!

Here%26#39;s a map of Yellowstone nps.gov/yell/…YELLmap1.pdf Your brief time in the park and desire to exit to Cody suggests the following itinerary:

Aug 22--enter South gate, view West Thumb geyser basin, proceed to Old Faithful for the first night.

Aug 23--look around Old Faithful area then tour up the West side of the park. Stay in Mammoth.

Aug 24--tour the upper east side of park, including Yellowstone canyon area. Stay in Canyon.

Aug 25--tour the lower East side of park including Lake Village and Fishing Bridge. Exit East gate to Cody.

Thanks, it%26#39;s a very nice loop. Unfortunately, Old Faithful is sold out for the 22 and I have to choose an other lodge. Sorry for my poor English. Bye from Italy

if canyon lodge is a nice option, i can try to find availability. You seggest to change in order to avoid drivind?

If you can get all 4 nights at Canyon, I would take that - it%26#39;s very nice and is centrally located. My second choice would be either Lake Lodge or Lake Hotel - good location also.

Don%26#39;t wait too long to make your reservations or the rooms may not be available anymore! You can always call back and check for cancellations - often you will be able to get a different room and/or location later if you want.

No matter where you stay, you%26#39;ll be doing a lot of driving just because the Park is so large. However, there is so much to see along the way, you%26#39;ll have a great time!

Yes, stay at Canyon if they have rooms. It is not the prettiest of the lodges - many of the buildings there a very retro in style, but there is a nice visitor center, stores (including grocery, camping supplies, souveniors, and even camera supplies), and

a few restaurant options. Sometimes, if you book last min, you may have to skip around. Old Faithful and Mammoth are also ok. I would avoid staying to the south - there just are not that many sites south of the grand loop. If you really want to stay on the south end of the park there is Flagg Ranch, just south of the entrance. The motel varies in service, as the owner/manager has a hard time retaining employees, but they have a few services as well.

Thanks a lot.

Just one more dubt, the first day we arrive from Salt Lake City and I%26#39;m afraid of not arriving in time at the Canyon lodge, that%26#39;s why I thought a south entrance hotel the first night could have saved time. Actually, it%26#39;s my first time there and I don%26#39;t know how long it takes from salt lake city.

I know it may be an expensive call, but it may be worth it to contact Xanterra directly for park lodging. It is 866-439-7375.

There may be lodging available that does not show online.
