I%26#39;ve seen the TA reviews, but thought I%26#39;d post here as well to see your thoughts on either one, and the Canyon area in general if I had to stay there a couple nights during our Sept. trip. There are rooms still available in both, but pretty steep at 164 per night. I guess all rooms in the park are pretty expensive.
Anyway, any thoughts on either place would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Dunraven, Cascade Lodges at Canyon. Anyone stay recently?
No experience with Dunraven and Cascade Lodges, but I did want to mention that the cafeteria in Canyon will be closed already in September...something I just found out yesterday when I also found out that the (frontier) cabin I had already reserved would be closed. It sounds like the dining room will still be open though.
Also--there are much cheaper lodging options in the park, if you don%26#39;t mind roughing it a bit! I booked a roughrider cabin (no bathroom in cabin, but communal one nearby) for just $66/night. I also booked a Lake Lodge cabin (with bathroom) for $66/night plus tax.

As kren just found out this week, most of the facilities at Canyon are closing early this year (Aug. 30th) for maintenance. Unfortunately the lodging is still showing up as available on Xanterra%26#39;s website. I would suggest that you call them for more current info.
Here is the NPS Yellowstone site with the closing dates: nps.gov/yell/…CP_JUMP_127510
Good Luck!
Thanks. I%26#39;ll call them just in case.
Why though, does it seem like the Canyon area is closing services sooner than others?
Does that area get worse weather sooner?
Or is it just luck of the draw?
There%26#39;s such a short season for road-work and repairs, they%26#39;re always working on something - I think it%26#39;s just Canyon%26#39;s turn.
