hi, we are 4 young adults want to road trip to yellow stone national park. we will start from montreal canada, probably go to Detroit and then Chigago, and we need some suggestions after that.
anything that is worth visiting along the routes from chigago to the yellow stone, pls tell me.
we can choose two different routes to drive to and back home, so really anything, anywhere, along the 94, 90 or 80 would be great.(or im i wrong?)

How much time, days, do you have for this wonderful trip?

How many days? What about the Black Hills of SD?
Mount Rushmore!
hi, we are planing two weeks for this trip, July 18th to aug 1st.
As mentioned above, Black Hills area including Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, Wind Cave Nat Park, Jewel Cave Nat Mon. Then in WY, Devils Tower, Cody WY museums.
I%26#39;m not sure how many days you plan for the west of Chicago portion... here%26#39;s my ideas...
Day 1 Chicago to South Dakota (Sioux Falls area)
Day 2 Visit The Corn Palace in Mitchell www.cornpalace.org then on to Black Hills area for the night. Stay in Custer, Keystone or Hill City. See Badlands Nat Park and Wall Drug
Day 3 Visit Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park and 1 of the caves. Stay in Deadwood SD for the night. Enjoy gambling if old enough.
Day 4 Drive to Devils Tower Nat Mon in WY then to Cody WY for the night.
Day 5 See the Cody Museums, then into YS park. Make sure you have lodging reservations ahead of time.
Day 6 Yellowstone
Day 7 Yellowstone
Day 8 Yellowstone
Day 9 Yellowstone
Day 10 Tetons
Day 11 Tetons
Day 12 Tetons to Cheyenne WY via Dubois, Lander, Rawlins WY. See Bighorn Sheep Center in Dubois, Sinks Canyon State Park near Lander.
Day 13 Cheyenne to ? on I80
Cheyenne Frontier Days is July 18-26 - world%26#39;s largest outdoor rodeo. Lots of free and inexpensive events. A great time for young adults!
If pressed for time, especially for the return drive YNP and Teton could be each done in a day less than suggested above. A lot depends on how much desire for time consuming activities like hiking, horseback or river rafting versus visiting various sites like falls and geothermal features. Same for Teton...if goal is just to view the mountains that does not take long...but hiking in them would.
I-90 is the straightest shot from Chicago. There is a lot to see in the Black Hills.
The southern return route on I-80 works well too for variety. The side trip to Independence Rock is interesting and the view from the top of the rock is great, as are the pioneer name carvings all over the top.
If possible just past Rawlins on I-80 at Walcott take WY-130 to Laramie over the Snow Range Scenic Byway. Very spectacular mountains. If the weather is clear you can also see far into Colorado.
You have gotten some great ideas. But I would suggest trying to hit the Tetons first when in the Yellowstone area. Then on the way out you can go through the Beartooth Mountains and take I-94 on the way home.
Have fun!
