I have the option of either staying in a room in the Inn or a cabin from Old Faithful Snow lodge...which should I choose as far as location/distance from the geysers or comfort level? Please advise. thanks.
Which is better:Old Faithful Inn or Old Faithful Snow Lodge? If you go to the YNP website, select the Map, focus in on Old Faithful area, and you will see that they are pretty much equidistant from Old Faithful. And, there is so much more there to see so walk the trails and enjoy. I%26#39;d choose whichever provides the most comfort. You can choose the Lodge and visit the Inn, very much worthwhile.
Last time I was at OFI, many years ago, I recall quite small rooms and a lot of visitors touring/seeing the building, and some degree of noise, but I was pretty near the main reception area. Now, I%26#39;d choose Snow Lodge.
Which is better:Old Faithful Inn or Old Faithful Snow Lodge? In terms of location to the geysers, I%26#39;ll disagree and say OFI is much closer. You can%26#39;t sit on the front porch of Snow Lodge and see the geyser basin, you will walk across a large (say Wal-Mart size) parking lot, then around OFI to get to the geyser boardwalk.
Snow Lodge is newer than even the new additions to OFI, so it is most modern. We greatly prefer the Inn -- the history, the people watching in the lobby, sitting out on the deck watching the geyser basin. We%26#39;ve only stayed in the old, main section, so I can%26#39;t speak to the size of the rooms in the additions. In the old part, they are small rooms, designed for sleeping. Whichever you choose, it will be terrific because you will be in Yellowstone.
I%26#39;ll agree about the parking lot, unsure about the distance to the perimeter of OF geyser. Willing to be corrected, however.
You raise the point as to why I dislike staying at the OF area - the traffic (cars, buses, motorcycles), parking and crowds. Plus, it%26#39;s a bit far from the wildlife viewing areas that are my emphasis.
There are two parts to the Snowlodge, the main building and the cabins. While the main building is new and beautiful, the cabins are not. They are even further away from Old Faithful than the main building, but I wouldn%26#39;t think that would be an issue, they are still close enough.
I haven%26#39;t stayed in either Old Faithful Inn or the Snowlodge Cabins, so can%26#39;t give you advice. We loved our stay in the main building at Snowlodge.
The OFI is a great place to view Old Faithful and hang out. When I stayed there, however, I really didn%26#39;t care for the noise. MANY people hanging out, exploring the building, singing along with the pianist in the lobby. Not a place to relax! However, if you aren%26#39;t looking to chill out and can sleep through it all, go for it! Can%26#39;t beat the location!
Snow Lodge--not the cabins--is the best place to stay in Yellowstone imho. it%26#39;s a modern, attractive hotel with rooms that warrant the price given the location. The cabins get mixed reviews as does OF Inn, but our experience at OFI was unsatisfactory so we moved to Snow Lodge and liked it. Some folks overlook the inadequacies of the rooms at OFI because of the old place%26#39;s charms, but with a better option close by we chose to move to Snow Lodge. Now if I had to choose between the OFI and Snow Lodge Cabins, I would go with the cabins and enjoy the nearby Inn when and as I wished.
