We (hubby, daughter-17, sons-14 and 11) are flying into Billings on June 14, staying with a friend that night. June 15th we are going to drive thru the Beartooth Mountains (weather permiting) and arrive at Canyon Village cabins for 4 nights. Tuesday-lower loop, Wednesday-upper loop, Thursday-drive down to the Tetons and back, Friday go to Gallatin Gateway for a wedding on Saturday and fly out of Billings on Sunday.
1. Are there picnic tables and/or grills at the cabins at Canyon Village?
2. We are thinking of rafting on Wednesday either Gallatin river or Yellowstone River. Any suggestions?
3. What are the misquitos like in June?
4. How do we find out about ranger camp fire talks?
Thanks for all your help.
Advice pleaseThe check in desk at Canyon will have information about ranger programs. Best visitor center in the park is right there, as well.
Not sure about picnic tables and grills. You could phone them and ask.
There%26#39;s a great program for your aged children called the Young Scientist program. You buy the workbook for $5, they have to think and receive a patch or keychain at the end. The fee is to pay for the materials so it doesn%26#39;t have to come our of park budget ... helps the park. It could be completed while you tour the park. Very educational!
Advice pleaseTry to bring binoculars... it%26#39;ll enhance your wildlife viewing.
1. From what I remember, no there are no picnic tables and grills at the cabins, but there are a number of picnic areas around that have grills.
2. There are a few outfitters in Gardiner that have raft trips. I have not done a raft trip there, so can%26#39;t help much on which river is better. Maybe search this forum.
3. I would bring bug spray! Mosquitoes and/or flies! May and June usually have more mosquitoes, July/August more biting flies.
4. These talks will be listed in the information you get when you enter and at the various visitor centers and campgrounds. Here%26#39;s an online listing www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/rangerprog.htm
