Hi Experts,
I have been trying to find out the most logical way to go through Yellowstone, but I am hoping for your help:
We arrive from the California-side to Yellowstone, and leave down to Utah with a stay in Grand Teton on the way.
We will have 4 days/nights to spend in our rented RV in Yellowstone. As we don%26#39;t really like the commercial kind of camp grounds we would love to stay inside the park, we do not need full hook-ups.
Can anyone in here give us an idea where to make the reservations, if we say two nights at two different places within the park, so it is most logical for our route and we get to see much and with also the campground ok?
I really hope for your help, as we are already on the road, and it is really difficult to do this over a almost never working computer - internet.
I would be very much thankful, then I can make the reservation over the phone.
Thank you in advance.
Regards, Jane from Denmark, currently in California - and enjoying the trip of our life :).
Arriving in Yellowstone late May - please help
This link should help you choose a campground within the Park. It shows the locations and also lists the amenities available at each area. It also has the toll-free reser4vation number: nps.gov/yell/…camping-in-yellowstone.htm
The same website will also show you a map of YNP - it%26#39;s in a figure 8 shape, with an upper and lower loop. Since you have 4 nights available, you may choose to stay in 2 different locations - perhaps at Canyon or the Lake area, then either Mammoth, OFI, Norris, or Madison.
Wherever you stay, you%26#39;ll find wonderful sights and plenty to see and do!
Have a wonderful trip - and come back with any further questions as you get closer!
Arriving in Yellowstone late May - please help
Thank you very much for answering.
I will get right on with the booking, and am looking forward.
You%26#39;re very welcome - and Good Luck!
In late May, some of the campgrounds will be closed because of grizzly bear activity, while others may still be closed because of snow. A look at the webcam from Mt. Washburn will tell you a lot about how much snow remains in Yellowstone.

I always suggest making reservations before you go, but if you arrive early in the day, you can likely get a spot, the same day, at one of the campgrounds in the park. Some of the campgrounds may not be open yet, but with kids still in school, and it is still early for YNP, there should be space. Last year, during the peak of the busy season, they had made a mistake on our reservation and were still able to get us in at another park campground that same night. The park%26#39;s reservation system is all connected, so the office at one campground can book you a spot at another.
