As a gentlemen, dinner dress code?

I%26#39;m trying to figure out want clothes my teenage son, age 17, needs for our upcoming trip to YNP. He has all kinds of clothes, including several suits. He likes to dress up in a suit for dinner at least once during a vacation.

How would all of you gentlemen out there dress for dinner for Old Faithful Inn, Lake Hotel, Grant Village and Grand Teton%26#39;s Jackson Lake Lodge. Their websites state ';casual dress';?

A: Hiking shorts, tee shirt, boots

B: Jeans and collared tee shirt, tennis shoes

C: Nice khakis and dress shirt, dress shoes

D: Other(i.e. suit, dress pants %26amp; dress shirt %26amp;

dress shoes)

As a gentlemen, dinner dress code?

The only choice you won%26#39;t see is ';D';. Probably won%26#39;t see any dress shoes either.

There is no need to have the extra weight and bulk of dress clothes. They take a lot of room.

I%26#39;ve eaten in A, B and part of C. I either had boots or sandals with the khakis.

There just isn%26#39;t a need to get dressed up. He%26#39;ll also look out of place.

I%26#39;ve never eaten at Jackson Lake Lodge, but in YNP, the only places that people ';dress up'; a little more is at the OFI and Lake Hotel dining rooms, but even there you won%26#39;t see option D - just fewer shorts.

I used to make my husband take khakis and dress shoes to wear to dinner - until he realized he was the only one wearing them and rebelled :-)

I would suggest B or C, without the dress shoes.

Have Fun!

People who do ';D'; are called ';bear bait';. :)

';C'; is the most you%26#39;ll see, but rarely, mostly by foreign visitors.

By the end of the day, with all that you will be doing and seeing, you won%26#39;t care what you wear; neither will anyone else.

Thanks everyone,

No suit or dress shoes then. I justed wanted to make sure that he would be appropriately dressed. But not ';out of place'; or ';bear bait';. He likes to wear black leather tennis shoes, so those will go well with the khakis, jeans or hiking shorts.

A pair of loafers go well with khakis or other slacks and a sport shirt. That attire is seen at OFI, Lake Hotel and JLL. I%26#39;ve also seen sport jackets around. Not necessary, but sometimes people like to raise the bar a bit at dinner in an elegant dining room.

Thanks texhill,

That%26#39;s good to know. He already has all those items. We%26#39;re the kind of family that dresses for a nice dinner and at elegant dining rooms.

We ate dinner at the Four Seasons in B. Everyone else was in B or B with khakis/sandals.

OFI and Lake are very nice - but don%26#39;t know if I%26#39;d call them ';elegant dining rooms'; :-)

Thanks everyone for the input,

It looks like ';C'; w/ loafers will be my choice.
