Best route to Denver

Which is the better route to Denver i.e the quickest road route? The I25 or to take the road from Thermopolis to Lander and then the I80.

We would be visiting at the end of June.

Thanks for any replies.

Best route to Denver

We were in YNP last June and after we left YNP went to Cody then took the route thru scenic Wind River Canyon down to Casper then to Cheyenne and on to Denver to fly home. A good route with no traffic.

Best route to Denver

Thanks for the advice. I think it is slightly less miles that way than Themoplolis to Lander and then on to Denver.

See you have been to Bar Harbor. We were there late last year. What a wonderful place isn%26#39;t it.

Thanks again for the help.

Through Casper --%26gt; Cheyenne --%26gt; Denver on 1-25 is definitely the fastest from Thermopolis. The speed limit on I-80 was reduced from 75mph to 65mph this year, so that route takes longer.

I concur on going via Casper as being fastest. it also completely avoids any mountain passes. Hell%26#39;s Half Acre about halfway from Shoshoni to Casper is interesting although the small tourist operation there is sor tof a dump...or was last time we passed through that way.

IF...you wanted to head down to I-80 at Rawlins I would not suggest going through Lander. At Riverton use WY-15, the Sand Draw Cutoff. It is decent road (last we used it) and saves a bunch of miles. If going that way and time is not super critical doing the little side trip to Independence Rock is pretty interesting. But it would cost a couple hours total.

I-80 from Rawlins to Cheyenne (then I-25 to Denver) is fairly fast but has a small (easy) mountain pass just past Laramie. With speed reduced on the freeway you could maybe save a few miles with US-287 from Laramie without much time penalty. But if you are inclined to push the speed limit a bit (usually can get by up to 5-10mph over) then stick to the freeway. The interchange for I-25 is on the south side of Cheyenne so not much ';city slow zone';.

Correction: Sand Draw Cutoff is WY-135..not 15. Reminder to self...hit the ';3'; key harder.

Thanks for all the most helpful replies.

They have certainly helped in my planning.
