Help please re road openings.

My husband is about to start a road trip from Salt Lake City up to Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone NP. He has 2 nights booked in Jackson (May 6th %26amp; May 7th) then hopes to drive in the south entrance and out the east entrance of Yellowstone to spend a night in Cody on Friday 8th May then 3 nights at Old Faithful Snow Lodge. He booked the Cody leg because he thought the drive up from Cody on Hwy 296 (Chief Joseph Highway?) sounded great. The plan was then to come in the north east entrance of Yellowstone at Cooke City and drive down through the park to his lodging. He knew this was a roundabout way of getting from Teton to Yellowstone but it%26#39;s a road trip and he wants to drive as many great roads as possible.

Checking on the nps website, we can%26#39;t quite figure out if the Cooke City entrance will be open or not (he knows he may have delays for snow clearance if there%26#39;s been a recent snowfall). One area of the website talks of that entrance being open for 2nd Friday in May (the day before his planned entrance) but another page mentions it being open on May 27th.

Anyone able to give any reassurance, please? Many thanks!

I do recall that there is a phone number listed for the Beartooth Highway / US 212 at

nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/roadclosures.htm

There should be a website, phone number, or both for Wyoming state highway department, but may not be included on the National Park Service website.

While in Cody, he should check out the Buffalo Bill museum.

A drive through the Lamar Valley is spectacular.

The road through Lamar Valley from Cooke City to Gardiner is open year-round.

Hope that helps.

The road opens depending on snow and weather conditions. We have had some late spring storms.

I would call the Chamber of Commerce%26#39;s who will have the latest word. They live right at these roads.

Cooke City Chamber of Commerce -406) 838-2495

Red Lodge Chamber - (406) 446-1718

Thanks to you both for your helpful advice. I know it%26#39;s a bad time of year, but we%26#39;re trying to make the most of it.
