We typically like staying at hotels comparable to a Marriott Courtyard: somewhat recently renovated with a kingsize bed and pullout sofa for our 15 yr old son. My wife likes convenience shops, storefronts %26amp; restaurants; never having been to within 1,000 miles of Jackson, I%26#39;m looking forward to the parks, views and wildlife.
As this will be our 1st time to the area and spending some 6-7 days, would you spend the duration of your time in Jackson or break it into two locations? We like good value for the money; we%26#39;re not interested in spending over $300 per night but want a clean, comfortable room with accommodations that work well for a family of 3 like a Courtyard. We%26#39;re planning our trip for early July. Any help would be appreciated!
Family of Three - First Time to Jackson Hole
Are you planning on visiting Yellowstone at all? Really not easy to do from Jackson, look at West Yellowstone for lodging similar to what you prefer while you visit YS. Spend 4 nights in Yellowstone, 2 or 3 nights in Teton/Jackson
Stay in Jackson for your Teton visit. Plenty of lodging in the Jackson area that will fit. Trapper Inn, Wort Hotel, Wyoming Inn
I would get reservations ASAP. That is a busy time and you may not have a huge choice.
Keep in mind that the scenery is the important thing, not the lodging as you really will not be in the room that much. Enjoy your trip.
Family of Three - First Time to Jackson Hole
Casa is correct. Make reservations ASAP. You will enjoy Wyoming Inn in Jackson Hole but check out West Yellowstone for YNP. The Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort is nice there. You will want to split your time between YNP and GT.
We stayed at the Trapper Inn last year and it was great. Good location to town and walking distance to food, parks, river trip companies, and an easy drive to Grand Teton National Park. I think the Trapper was just remodeled a few years ago. I think you would like Jackson, there is a lot of things to do for everyone, from getting to the outdoors to having a little bit of night fun and shopping.
Thanks for the advice - just made a reservation at the Sunspree outside Yellowstone Park for 3 nights. Very, very excited about the whole trip.
Checked out all of the hotels you mentioned in Jackson - I could have flipped a coin on any of them. We%26#39;ve made a reservation at Wyoming Inn for 4 nights - so we%26#39;re splitting our vacation between Yellowstone and Jackson. The reservation specialist I spoke to over the phone at Wyoming Inn couldn%26#39;t have been any nicer.
Thanks to those who responded! Anyone have a preference for a car rental company? We%26#39;ll probably fly into Salt Lake and drive from there...
As noted previously by another, YNP warrants as many days as you can give it, so I, too, would have 4 nights in or near YNP, 3 in Jackson area.
Your son, and you folks, will never forget the Yellowstone experience.
Some hints on Inside Pages:
Bring Binoculars.
Buy a cheap, large, cooler. You will see sights you won%26#39;t want to leave to get food.
This National Park website contains a lot of very good information. http://www.nps.gov/yell/
If you decide to lodge in the park, and it does have benefits: Official Lodging and Tour vendor for Yellowstone National Park (Call them frequently, cancellations occur.)

Thanks, Voyaging. We will take advantage of all of the good advice. Knowing what to bring and purchase before venturing into Yellowstone was great. We%26#39;ll definitely be creating a list with these items before we go.
You might want to try flying into Idaho Springs, we got a good deal last summer from Philly. It%26#39;s about a two hour drive from there, much more doable than Salt Lake.
Thanks for the advice on Idaho Springs... I will definitely check into it.
That would be Idaho Falls.....
