Maybe heading to Yellowstone tomorrow? (Friday May 15th)

My husband and I live over in Idaho and were thinking of making a weekend trip over to Jackson Hole tomorrow staying for one night, driving through Yellowstone on Saturday and then staying the night at West Yellowstone, coming home on Sunday.

Any idea on conditions over there right now? Lots of snow?

How about chances of seeing a fair amount of wildlife.

Last time we were in Yellowstone was early June 2003.

Thanks.

Since I live a lot farther from Yellowstone than you, I can%26#39;t be depended on to give up to the minute information on the amount of snow. However, there are some webcams that will give you an idea of how much snow there is.

Old Faithful webcam: www.nps.gov/archive/yell/oldfaithfulcam.htm

Mammoth webcam: nps.gov/archive/…mammothcam2.htm

Mt. Washburn webcam (my favorite for estimating how much snow there still is): nps.gov/archive/…index.htm

Thanks! I%26#39;ll have a look.

The webcams will show you the current snowpack. Check the YNP site too for road closures: nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/roadclosures.htm

Right now it%26#39;s sunny and the weather is predicted to warm up this weekend (probably 60%26#39;s, maybe into the low 70%26#39;s) and stay sunny, so you should have great weather for a trip.

Also, there will be lots of wildlife out and about. The bison are having their calves now too.

Enjoy!

This is great news. Thank you!

We are planning to spend as much time as we can in the park this weekend...since it is right down the street! But, this weekend is going to be the nicest of the entire year so far. Finally getting some sun and warm temperatures. It is just a beatiful morning today!

There are lots of bison on the roads and off the roads. We are spotting more bright red baby bison every day! There have been also many bear sightings and other predators. Coyotes, wolves, and foxes are all on the move.

Lots of herons, sandhill cranes, eagles, peregrines, and osprey along the rivers.

There will be snowbanks off the roads, but they are receding rapidly. It will still be chilly at night.

We%26#39;re heading out around 8 am tomorrow morning. We originally thought about leaving today but had stuff to take care of first around the house and things to pick up as well so decided Saturday morning would be better. It%26#39;s a 6 hour drive from where we live to Jackson.

Anyhow the route we%26#39;ll take through the park will be up to West Thumb, Lake Village, Canyon Village over to Norris to Madison and then West Yellowstone. The last time around we came in through West Yellowstone, down to Old Faithful and then Jackson.

Really looking forward to the mini trip and I%26#39;m glad to hear it%26#39;s going to be a nice weekend.

I have all my cameras ready along with the binoculars...lol.
