Looking for books on great day hikes for 2 parks (easy to strenuous), suggetions?
Day hikes reference for Yellowstone and GTetons
Falcon Guide Hiking Yellowstone National Park by Bill Schneider is a wonderful resource for YNP. Breaks hikes down by area of the park and difficulty, and also includes maps, elevation gains, and key points of interest. Not sure if there is a Falcon Guide for the Tetons, but have another of their guides for Glacier and I think for the Smokies--good resource and very accurate for the average hiker (me).
Day hikes reference for Yellowstone and GTetons
Hi, I have to second librarychick%26#39;s recommendation of Falcon Guide Hiking Yellowstone National Park by Bill Schneider. I own this book and having spent the last 20 years living and playing around YNP I have found this book not only helpful but very accurate for planning hikes in YNP.
There is also a Falcon Guide to Hiking in Grand Teton National Park that I just started using 2 years ago and so far it has been just as helpful. I used it to plan my 7 day trip last Sept on the Teton Crest Trail (40 miles) that spans the spine of the Tetons from north to south high above the valley floor.
Both books offer details about elevation (with profiles), distances, attractions on the trails, access and parking, alternate routes, and other suggestions to get the most out of your hikes. I cannot give a strong enough recommendation to both of these resources.
Enjoy your trip.
Kery
